About Me

I tell stories through space, light, and design. With 25 years of experience as an educator, scenic and lighting designer, and technical director, I have worked across theatre, musical theatre, and dance, shaping environments that enhance performance and connect with audiences. My background includes leadership in higher education and expertise with visualization tools such as Vectorworks and SketchUp. I bring a collaborative approach to every project, balancing artistry, technical precision, and storytelling. I’m interested in exploring freelance opportunities in commercial and experiential design, from trade shows to live events, where my skills in visualization and collaboration bring ideas to life.

I have developed this website over the years in order to support my lighting design courses at Central Michigan University, Department of Theatre and Dance. 

This material is appropriate for anyone interested in learning about lighting design from a fundamental level. You might be:
  • a high school student who is 'the only tech person at your school, loves lighting, but often feels like you're making it up as you go along, (Note- if this is you, we want you at CMU! Contact me HERE for more information and a tour)
  • a teacher, whose background is in acting and directing, but also winds up doing all of the design work,
  • a community theatre technician, designer, or director who is interested in a more formal method for lighting that goes beyond "mess" around and find out,
  • a college student, or young professional, looking for additional materials to extend the training you're getting in your classroom, 
  • an educator, who probably knows all of this stuff already, maybe better than I do, who is disgusted by the price of textbooks, and is looking for an affordable (or free) resource for your students
